Mark Twain & Mary Baker Eddy - A film by Val Kilmer

Director's Notes

What would you ask Twain if you ran into him in the elevator?

We got some great answers after asking you this question on Facebook, and wanted to post some of our favorites here. One of you wanted to know what the Twain Eddy Film team would ask them. Thanks for asking! If you haven’t answered yet, what are your thoughts?

What would you ask Twain if you ran into him in the elevator?

  • What childhood events perpetuated his creativity and incredible biting wit?
  • I would ask how man’s humanity has been altered by technology. we now have little or no time to sit back and contemplate the days as they pass.
  • Having lived a full & adventurous life, what do you regret most having done or not done in life?
  • What he thinks about Val Kilmer’s spot-on portrayal of him.
  • How have your views on religion and spirituality changed since experiencing your after life?
  • I would ask him why he was so interested in two women who were very devoted to God. Joan of Arc and Mary Baker Eddy…
  • Val Kilmer, Twain Eddy Film team member: How embarrassed ARE you by the things you said about Mrs. Eddy that you knew were lies?
  • Twain Eddy Film team member: Did you ever feel torn between who you really were (Samuel Clemens), and who you played publicly (Mark Twain)?
  • Twain Eddy Film team member: Do you have an iPad?
  • Twain Eddy Film team member: What parts of Eddy’s book resonated with you and why were you so convinced that she didn’t write it?

I would ask him about his travels and how they played into his motivation for writing his novels. Also as we all have someone in our life that we look up too, I would ask him who was his inspiration back in his era.

  4. Grace says:

I would ask…during your stay in Duluth, MN did you ever partake of the Superior crawl?

  5. Angela says:

I don’t know, as life goes on we evolve into different people based on our age, based on our experiences, based on the times, based on what we hold most important to us, I supposed if I were to be in a thoughtful state of mind I might ask…Mr. Twain, what was the most happy experience in your life and tell me what that feeling was like for you? This is when, I think we are closest to God, everyone has the capacity to feel that love and happiness it’s just a matter of remembering and trying to hold on to that.

If I met Mark Twain in an elevator, I would ask: How come you chose the pen name you did as a novelist? i.e by the “Mark Twain”.

    Your question to the iPad.
I have an iphone. Perhaps, you would create an app for iPhone and iPad. With info, pictures and more. I think it’s a nice idea, do not always have time to sit at my computer, but my iPhone is always with me. ;o)

I would ask Mr.Twain, ” Would Huckleberry Finn believe Mrs. Eddy’s technique’s for healing?” Also, “Why as children we believe EVERYTHING and as adults we believe NOTHING?”

    Hmm..wonder what he would say?

  13. Christa Mountain says:

Now that your autobiography is out, what would YOU like to be revealed in the film? Did you get to meet Mrs. Eddy in the hereafter? Did you get to the heart of the Truth of the matter? Now, how do you celebrate Christmas? :)
