Mark Twain & Mary Baker Eddy - A film by Val Kilmer

Minnie Adelaide Still

Minnie Adelaide Still, (left) 34, is Eddy’s personal maid, who recently emigrated to the US from Somersetshire, England. She is a bright, slender, attractive girl who was forced to earn her way in the world when her education as a teenager was cut short as her family fell into sudden poverty. Eddy appreciates her pluck and is nourished by her quiet, down to earth faith. She and “Adda” share a sweet, girlish bond surrounding the small pleasures Eddy allows herself in a life of spiritual rigor and constant demands.

    Hi Sindy,
I just looked at Shirley Cheechoo’s profile on Native Networks through SI – and I think I could see her in another role, when I read that this Minnie Adelaide Still immigrated from London I thought of Keira Knightly, slender and that Eddy appreciated her “pluck” and someone who could play quiet and her down to earth faith. I know Keira Knightly is know for doing more action films but she has a very expressive face. I could see your Shirley Cheechoo playing a more major focal solid role from her bio, pictures, the fact that she likes to create something meaningful to me would seem like she would be better in a role where she is more of a…I don’t know the words right now but I don’t see her for this, I’ll look at the other roles and see what is more here, I know there is a face in my head that she would be good for but I haven’t looked at the cast of people who are in need of a suggestion.

    Gina Bellman

Miss Still was from Somerset, not Somersetshire (which is an archiac name for that county in the West of England). The role doesn’t require a star, but Miss Still should be portrayed with a slight English West Country accent. Young British actor would be ideal.

    Allison Janney

Ann Friel, she is slender yet tough and the right age and a much-loved British actress. Oh and great at UK regional accents. Keira Knightly is way too young and wooden.

  22. George Reed says:

Georgia Reed would be a great choice. She is an accomplished ballet dancer and actress who was raised in Christian Science and would “get” the nuances needed to bring this role to life. Georgia also would “look” right for the part. She is humility and guts.

I also think you should consider Georgia Reed. Slim, lovely, and very promising new talent. Also has a background that would fit nicely into this film.
    Check out her website above.

  25. Harlan Greenman says:

An actress with a real life connection to the Christian Science faith, Georgia Reed was born to play the role of a woman in Mary Baker Eddy’s life. Miss Reed shares Miss Still’s quiet down to earth faith as well as her “pluck.”
